OSHA has posted a 60-second Public Service Announcement (PSA) on Heat Illness Prevention. The link to the audio file and transcript copied below. Thank you for participating in the Voluntary Protection Program.
Every year thousands of workers become sick from heat exposure and some cases are fatal. Dangerous heat exposure can occur indoors or outdoors, in any season.
Nearly 3 out of 4 heat illness fatalities happen during the first week of work.
So, new and returning workers need to build tolerance to heat by taking frequent breaks and working shorter shifts to start.
It is also important to drink water, even if you aren’t thirsty. Take rest breaks to recover from heat in the shade or a cool area. Be sure to wear a hat and light-colored, loose-fitting, breathable clothing if possible. And, remember to monitor yourself and fellow workers for signs of heat illness. Also, if you are wearing a face covering or personal protective equipment, such as a respirator, verbally check on others frequently for signs of heat illness.
