SGE Opportunities

Region 2 Special Government Employees:

Listed below are upcoming SGE opportunities that are currently open in OSHA Region 2. If you are available to participate on any of these VPP evaluation teams, please reply directly to Greta Olsson at olsson.greta@dol.gov via e-mail. Please obtain permission to participate from your supervisor before volunteering for a SGE assignment.

NOTE: The pandemic conditions in Region 2 have improved and we have resumed full VPP evaluations onsite (including SGEs onsite with OSHA personnel), so there are now many opportunities to complete a SGE-qualifying activity. Thank you for your service as Special Government Employees.

Site Activity

building, remanufacturing, and modernizing freight and passenger locomotives, production of propulsion systems for rapid transit trains, and producing motorized drive systems for large off-highway vehicles.

Site Hazards

The hazards at the site include, but are not limited to hazards from machining and fabrication operations; permit required confined space entries; hazardous energy sources and high voltage electricity; fire hazards; material handling hazards associated with the use of cranes, hoists, slings, and powered industrial truck operations; spray finishing operations; abrasive blasting; grinding, welding and cutting operations; elevated heights; caught in between and struck by hazards; and musculoskeletal hazards. There are health hazards which include elevated noise levels; airborne contaminants; heat and thermal stressors; and contact with hazardous chemicals. The site does not use chemicals considered to be highly hazardous and in sufficient quantity to place the site under the Process Safety Management (PSM) Standard.
