Fire Safety for People with Disabilities

The US Fire Administration email below has public outreach information to help keep people with disabilities safe from home fires. It is a good reminder to review your workplace fire evacuation procedures to ensure they protect your coworkers with disabilities.

--

Millions of people live with physical and mental disabilities.

Statistics show that each year:

There are approximately 700 home fires involving people with physical disabilities.

There are approximately 1,700 home fires involving people with mental disabilities.

Teach your community to plan fire safety around their abilities. Having physical and mental disabilities doesn’t mean they can’t keep themselves and their family safe from fire.

July 26 is the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, take this opportunity to share fire safety messages with communities.
